Upon your arrival at the Cusco airport, we will be waiting for you with a sign bearing your name to warmly welcome you. Then, we will transfer you to your selected hotel, where you will be greeted with an aromatic coca tea to help you acclimate to the altitude. You will have time to rest before the start of the afternoon city and surrounding area tour, which begins with pick-up at 1:30 p.m. and ends around 6:30 p.m. Places to visit include:
- Koricancha Palace / Convent of Santo Domingo: A religious center known as the “Temple of the Sun,” showcasing impressive Incan engineering in its construction.
- The Cathedral: A colonial religious monument of extraordinary artistic value.
- Sacsayhuamán: Located 2 km from Cusco, this impressive construction features three levels of monumental stone walls with excellent architecture. Some stones weigh more than 120 tons. It was the site of the most important Incan ceremony to the Sun God, known as Inti Raymi or “Festival of the Sun,” held every June 24th.
- Qenqo: Located 3 km from Cusco, it was a ceremonial center used for sacrifices and astronomical observations.
- Puka-Pukara: Located 7 km from Cusco, this was an ancient resting place and lookout post along the Incan road network (Qhapaq Ñan) leading to the Amazon.
- Tambomachay: Located 8 km from Cusco, this site was a ceremonial center for water worship, considered a sacred source of life.
After breakfast at the hotel, we will pick you up at 8:00 a.m. to begin the tour, starting with a brief stop in Corao, then continuing the journey along the Vilcanota River to enjoy a panoramic view of the Incan citadel of Pisac. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to witness the local customs up close.
Next, we’ll travel to Urubamba, where we’ll enjoy lunch at a tourist restaurant. In the afternoon, we’ll continue to the archaeological park of Ollantaytambo, built to guard this part of the valley from possible invasions from the jungle. You’ll walk through the narrow streets and experience what this military, religious, and cultural center was like during Incan times.
On our way back to Cusco, we’ll visit the picturesque town of Chinchero, where you’ll see the remains of the royal estate of Túpac Inca Yupanqui. Admire the well-preserved Inca Wall in the main square and visit the beautiful colonial church, with interesting frescoes on the portico, built on top of an Incan foundation. We’ll return to Cusco around 6:30 p.m.
After breakfast at the hotel, we will pick you up at 6:40 a.m. and transfer you to the train station (about 20 minutes away). Then we’ll board the train to Aguas Calientes, a scenic 4-hour journey through beautiful landscapes. Upon arrival, we’ll transfer you to your hotel in Aguas Calientes. You’ll have the afternoon free to visit the famous hot springs or simply relax in the town.
Early in the morning, after breakfast at your hotel, we’ll take a 25-minute bus ride up a winding road to the incredible Machu Picchu. You’ll witness the stunning sunrise and have the option to climb Huayna Picchu, the highest peak, which is limited to 400 visitors per day and has an additional cost of $10 USD.
We’ll begin the guided tour visiting the Main Square, the Temple of the Three Windows, the Intiwatana, the Sacred Rock, the Temple of the Condor, and more. The tour lasts approximately 2.5 to 3 hours, followed by free time for you to explore the citadel on your own. In the afternoon, we’ll return to Cusco by train and transfer you back to your hotel.
Depending on your flight schedule, we will pick you up at your hotel and transfer you to the airport, marking the end of our services.
