Our tour begins at 6:45 AM with pickup from your hotel, followed by private transport to the main port. At 7:15 AM, we depart by boat toward the Uros Floating Islands, currently part of the Lake Titicaca National Reserve—recognized as the highest navigable lake in the world.
During the journey, you’ll enjoy beautiful panoramic and scenic views. Our specialized guide will explain the existence and history of the Uros Floating Islands. Today, the Uros people still preserve their own culture and traditions, such as artisanal fishing—especially for carachi and silverside fish. When fishing is abundant, they dry the fish under the sun. They also hunt wild birds and collect duck eggs.
Currently, about 75 floating islands are inhabited, each one well-organized. After a rich and insightful visit, we will say goodbye to the Uros and continue toward our next stop: the natural island of Taquile.
To reach our next destination, we will sail for approximately 2.5 hours to the natural island of Taquile. During the journey, you’ll observe the majestic Royal Mountain Range (Cordillera Real). The people of Taquile are known for their cooperative spirit and strong community organization.
Taquileños have achieved international recognition for their excellence in textile arts, earning a UNESCO award. Notably, spinning and weaving are primarily done by men, starting as young as eight years old, while women focus exclusively on spinning and dyeing the wool.
Life on Taquile remains largely untouched by modernity. The visit lasts about 2 hours, with 1 hour dedicated to enjoying a typical local lunch. If you’d like to support the community, you are welcome to purchase handicrafts made by the locals—this contributes directly to their sustainability and helps preserve their culture for future visitors.
Finally, our guide will inform you of the return time, with arrival in the city of Puno at approximately 5:00 PM.
