Description

Discover the vibrant heart of the Peruvian Amazon with our 4-day Tambopata adventure. You’ll explore lush rainforests, observe incredible wildlife like macaws, monkeys, and caimans, and sail through serene jungle rivers. Each day brings unforgettable activities such as canopy walks, nocturnal safaris, and guided hikes deep into the biodiverse Tambopata National Reserve. Stay comfortably in eco-lodges while immersing yourself in the sights and sounds of one of the world’s richest ecosystems.

Upon arrival at Padre Aldámiz International Airport, you will be greeted by a professional guide who will accompany you throughout your stay. You will be transferred to our offices in Puerto Maldonado for the necessary river transportation procedures. (Luggage that you won’t need in the jungle can be stored here to avoid transport inconveniences). You can visit the city’s main square and take photos from the Plaza Grau lookout, where you can admire the confluence of two major rivers: Madre de Dios and Tambopata. Boarding at the Captain’s Port will begin a 40-minute boat trip along the Madre de Dios River, heading towards our Lodge.

Upon arrival at the Lodge, you will be welcomed with a cocktail, and your bungalow keys will be provided along with lunch. The Lodge’s cuisine is noted for its international flavors, prepared by a skilled French chef. After lunch, you’ll have time to settle into your bungalow or swim in the pool. At 3:30 p.m., we’ll head out for an initial exploration of the Amazon jungle. A trek will introduce you to a variety of medicinal plants, tropical trees, birds, insects, butterflies, and other wildlife. A brief stop at an observation point offers views of toucans, macaws, and other birds (Duration: 2.5 to 3 hours). Afterward, you can enjoy a refreshing swim in the pool, sip an exotic cocktail at the terrace bar, or head down to the dock on the river to watch the sunset and relax amidst mango trees and palm trees. At 7:00 p.m., before dinner, there is a nighttime boat ride for a fun “Caiman Safari,” where we search for the white caiman (scientific name), which inhabits the riverbanks. Dinner will be at 8:00 p.m., and for those interested, a talk on the terrace lounge or some social time at the bar is available. Alternatively, enjoy a swim in the pool under the night sky and gaze at the Southern Cross in the brilliant Amazon sky.

Hotel | Meals: Lunch – Dinner

We’ll wake up at 5:30 a.m. for a 20-minute walk to the Macaw Clay Lick, where at least five species of macaws come down to eat a special clay essential for their metabolism. It’s a truly wonderful and exciting display of color. At 8:00 a.m., we’ll enjoy breakfast and free time to stroll around the Lodge’s splendid gardens, which feature dozens of varieties of exotic plants and native flowering trees. At 10:30 a.m., we’ll navigate the Madre de Dios River again for an expedition to “Monkey Island,” home to several species of these interesting and playful animals. After 30 minutes of navigation, we’ll enter the Tambopata-Candamo National Reserve for a 5 km trek through the lush tropical forest. Giant trees, snakes, monkeys, birds, and even the elusive jaguar may be observed. Our destination is the paradisiacal Sandoval Lake, a privileged habitat for numerous animal species, including birds (shanshos, kingfishers, and anhingas), various species of monkeys (wasitas, cotton-top tamarins, and capuchins), river otters, caimans, and piranhas. (It’s rare to spot the elusive anaconda). The giant paiche, a fish that can grow up to 2.5 meters and weigh over 200 kg, also inhabits the lake. Canoeing on the lake at sunset is an unforgettable experience. On our return to the river at dusk, we may observe some nocturnal animals.

After a day of intense activity, you can relax in your bungalow’s hammock or opt for a massage by the Lodge’s qualified staff. At 8:00 p.m., you’ll enjoy exotic flavors from the Lodge’s cuisine and desserts. Afterward, share music and conversation at the bar or listen to the sounds of the jungle from your hammock.

Hotel | Meals: Breakfast – Lunch – Dinner

At 8:00 a.m., enjoy breakfast and some free time to swim in the Lodge pool or shop for exclusive Amazonian handicrafts at our boutique. At 10:00 a.m., we’ll take a 1.5-hour boat ride to visit a Native Family. Along the riverbanks, we may see monkeys, river turtles, caimans, and various birds, as well as medicinal plants such as Sangre de Grado, Ojé, and Chacruna. The Cultural Rescue Project supports the Palma Real Native Community, the largest group with over 200 Ese’Eja families.

This project, located on Gamitada Island, revives two families’ ancestral values, showcasing their language, customs, clothing, and even dances. In an era where globalization rapidly erases ancient traditions, this is a great opportunity for direct contact with this ancient tribe of warriors and hunters, and a chance to help them economically by purchasing their handmade products. At 1:00 p.m., we’ll continue along Gamitada Island, where we may occasionally see animals fleeing from human presence. We’ll visit a chacra (traditional farm) and recognize tropical fruits and other local products such as cacao, bananas, coffee, and cocona. You’ll also taste local dishes. The local farmer will show us and let us try the varieties of tropical fruits that are sold at Puerto Maldonado’s main market. Upon returning to the Lodge, you can enjoy a refreshing swim in the pool while sipping an exotic cocktail, a perfect prelude to dinner. At 8:00 p.m., enjoy dinner and, for those interested, a chat on the restaurant terrace lounge or some fun at the bar, or swim in the pool under the starry night sky while watching the Southern Cross.

Hotel | Meals: Breakfast – Lunch – Dinner

After breakfast, it’s time to say goodbye to the Lodge’s staff and the natural surroundings. Your guide will accompany you back to the city. After retrieving any larger luggage at our offices, we’ll make a brief visit to Puerto Maldonado’s agricultural market. Our staff will then take you back to the airport, wishing you enjoyed these days as much as we enjoyed showing you this beautiful corner of Peru.
