Description

Embark on the thrilling Inca Jungle Trek 3 Days / 2 Nights and experience a perfect mix of adventure and history. Ride down from the high mountain pass of Abra Málaga by bike, hike through lush jungle trails, soak in natural hot springs, and explore the majestic Machu Picchu with a professional guide. This trek offers an unforgettable journey through stunning landscapes and ancient Inca paths.

The adventure begins at 6:00 a.m. with pickup at a location agreed upon during your pre-departure briefing at our office the day before. From the pickup point, we head to Lorenzo’s lodge, where you’ll enjoy your first included meal: a buffet-style breakfast.

After breakfast, we continue by private transport for about three hours until we reach Abra Málaga Pass (4,316 meters / 14,160 feet above sea level). This is the starting point of our downhill mountain biking tour. Your guide will provide a short safety briefing and hand out the necessary protective equipment before we descend by bike for approximately 3 hours (about 34 miles / 55 km) until we reach the town of Huamanmarca.

During this journey, you’ll witness a striking change in climate—from cold and dry highland terrain to warm and humid jungle. In Santa María, there is an optional white-water rafting activity (Class III & IV), available from April to November, for an extra cost of 100 soles (not included in the tour).

Meals included: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
Accommodation: Basic hostel (maximum 4 people per room)

After breakfast at around 7:00 a.m., our private transport van will take us from Santa María to Santa Teresa (approximately 1 hour). From Santa Teresa, we begin our hike towards the town of Aguas Calientes.

We hike for about 3 hours through the Aobamba Valley until we reach the Intihuatana sector, where we pass a government checkpoint and continue hiking. Along the way, we’ll have lunch and enjoy beautiful views of waterfalls, lush jungle landscapes, and the towering mountains surrounding Machu Picchu and Huayna Picchu.

You’ll also see an Inca astronomical sun clock, known as an “Intihuatana”, and other archaeological remains of the ancient citadel. After about 3 more hours of hiking, we arrive in Aguas Calientes, walking alongside the train tracks leading to the village.

Meals included: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
Accommodation: Basic hostel (maximum 3 people per room)

This is the highlight of the tour – the day we visit one of the 7 Wonders of the World. We start very early in the morning to catch the sunrise at Machu Picchu. Our ascent begins at 4:30 a.m., and you can choose to either hike the 1,500 Inca steps or take a $10 bus up to the citadel.

Once at the entrance, your guide will lead a 2-hour guided tour of the most significant temples and ruins inside the Inca city. After the guided tour, you’ll have free time to explore on your own, or, if you’ve booked in advance, you may climb Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain (limited to 400 people per day, $15 extra, bookings required at least 2 months in advance).

At your chosen time, return to Aguas Calientes (either walking or by bus) to catch the train back to Ollantaytambo or Cusco.
