Description

Discover the fascinating Nazca Lines on a full-day tour from Lima. Your journey begins with a scenic drive through the Peruvian desert to Nazca, where you’ll marvel at the impressive geoglyphs etched into the earth. Take a thrilling flight over the lines, observing the massive shapes and symbols, including animals, plants, and geometric patterns. Learn about the history and theories surrounding these ancient figures from an expert guide. This unforgettable experience lets you explore one of the most intriguing archaeological wonders of the world.

At the designated time, our staff will pick you up from your hotel and transfer you to the Nazca airport, which is located 4 kilometers from the city center. Upon arrival at our facilities at the airport, we will show you a video about the Nazca Lines. This interesting documentary lasts approximately 40 minutes, providing relevant information about the Nazca culture as well as the figures you will observe from the air. During this aerial tour, we will board a small plane with a capacity for five people, each with a window seat. After the video, our pilot will give an explanation of the flight route, and then we will begin our flight to the Nazca Lines.

The first figure we will see from the air will be the whale (see map), a large marine deity located to the east of the archaeological complex. To ensure a good view of each figure, our pilot will fly in circles over each design. We will then see geometric figures that resemble massive landing strips. These strange geometric designs over the desert led Swiss writer Erick Von Daniken to speculate that the Nazca Lines were created by extraterrestrials. These imposing trapezoids are approximately 2 kilometers long, and according to other scholars, they may have been used for religious ceremonies at important dates in the life of the Nazca people.

A few kilometers away, we will reach one of the most astonishing figures, the famous design known as the Astronaut. Unlike the other figures, the astronaut is designed on the slope of a small hill, not on the desert surface. Its body faces south, and according to Dr. Maria Reiche, it does not represent an astronaut but rather a shaman, someone with magical powers who could predict whether the coming time would be good or bad.

Next, we will continue our flight and fly over the figure of the monkey, a huge design measuring about 90 meters. After viewing the monkey, we will see the figure of the dog, located just a few meters away. Some archaeologists claim that this design does not represent a dog but a coastal fox. Continuing our flight, we will head to the western part of the pampa, where we will find one of the most beautiful figures, the hummingbird. According to Maria Reiche, this beautiful figure is associated with the summer solstice, as the bird’s long beak is aligned with a line pointing towards the sunrise each year during the summer solstice.

After observing the hummingbird, we will continue flying over the Nazca pampa until we spot the figure of the spider, located next to a gigantic rectangle. The spider measures 46 meters and was the first figure discovered by Maria Reiche in 1946. A few meters further south, we will see the figure of the condor, a beautiful bird represented with its wings in flight.

The next figure is located near the Ingenio valley: the flamingo, which measures more than 300 meters long. We will then see the figure of the parrot, a huge design showing this bird in a stylized form. Finally, we will fly over the Pan-American Highway, where on one side of the road we will see two beautiful designs, the hand and the tree. If we look closely, we will notice that next to the tree is another large design: the figure of the lizard, which was unfortunately cut in two when authorities built the Pan-American Highway in 1937. After viewing all these beautiful designs, we will return to the Nazca airport. End of service.
